MCGx provided independent technical authority for a three-well offshore gas commissioning campaign delivering ~500 MMscf/d combined production. Acting as technical oversight to the operator’s internal teams, MCGx enabled safe, consistent commissioning across all wells despite limited in-house start-up experience and known challenges on prior developments.
Problem
The operator faced a high-consequence commissioning campaign without a dedicated commissioning authority. Previous wells had experienced choke blockage, equipment issues, and sand control failures, increasing sensitivity to anomalies during start-up. Without experienced technical oversight, there was heightened risk of inappropriate troubleshooting, unnecessary intervention, or escalation during transient commissioning conditions.
MCGx Insight
MCGx provided structured, independent technical judgement throughout commissioning, guiding real-time decisions under uncertainty and maintaining discipline between observation, diagnosis, and action. Technical authority support ensured that responses to abnormal behaviour were proportionate, evidence-based, and aligned with long-term integrity objectives rather than short-term operational pressure.
Proof
All three wells were commissioned without integrity incidents or equipment damage. The operator adopted MCGx’s commissioning authority model for subsequent campaigns and established an ongoing advisory relationship.
